Nissan Navara NP23 YD23 Injector Coding & Knocking Issue

Owners of Nissan Navara NP300s fitted with the YS23DDT engine may, in some cases, experience excessive audible diesel knock from the Nissan Navara NP300s injectors.

This may occur even after fitting brand-new injectors

Nissan has acknowledged this condition and released a Service Bulletin (PDF) providing additional guidance for diagnosis and rectification.

Below is the Injector Learn Procedure and Nissan Service Bulletin (PDF) which contains additional information about the issue

Nissan NP300 – Injector Learn Procedure

Preparation

  1. Record current injector codes

    • Take a screenshot of the current injector codes.

  2. Reset base values

    • Recode injectors to a random code (e.g. AAAAAAAA).

    • This resets the system to base values.

  3. Re-enter correct injector codes

    • Return to the home screen.

    • Recode injectors to their correct values.

    • If values are already correct, simply select coding end → save → try again.

Reset Confirmation

  1. Verify reset

    • Start the engine.

    • View injection adaptation values in the data monitor.

    • They should all display 0.

    • Take a screenshot confirming this.

Learning Drive Cycle

  1. Perform drive cycle

    • Find a long, open stretch of road.

    • Drive the vehicle as follows (must be completed without interruption or the learning will be cancelled):

      • Accelerate in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th gears up to 2,900 RPM.

      • Do not exceed local speed limits.

      • Allow the engine to coast back down to 1,200 RPM.

    • Repeat the above sequence 10 times.

Verification

  1. Recheck values

    • Capture injector adaptation values again.

    • All cylinders must read 7.

  2. If values are not at 7

    • Repeat the drive cycle until all cylinders reach 7.

  3. Final confirmation

    • Send a screenshot or recording showing all cylinders at 7.

    • Reassess if needed.
